Research Use Only: What It Means and Why It Matters
Aurelia supplies research-use-only materials for laboratory and analytical research, not administration to people or animals. The label alone does not determine legal classification or approval status; requirements depend on the material, intended use and jurisdiction.
“For research use only” appears on every product we sell. It is not a formality. It describes Aurelia’s intended supply and use; applicable requirements also depend on the material and jurisdiction.
What the label means
Aurelia supplies its Research Use Only (RUO) materials for laboratory and analytical research, not for administration to people or animals or for diagnostic or therapeutic use. The label alone does not establish a product’s legal classification or approval status.
Who research materials are for
RUO materials are intended for qualified researchers working in appropriate laboratory settings — universities, research institutes, contract research organisations and industry laboratories — who have the training, facilities and oversight to handle them safely and lawfully.
The purchaser’s responsibilities
- Using products only for legitimate laboratory research.
- Complying with all laws and regulations that apply where they work.
- Following institutional safety, handling and disposal procedures.
- Keeping accurate records, including batch numbers, for traceability.
Why we ask you to confirm it
Before entering the store and again at checkout, we ask every customer to confirm their age, that they may lawfully purchase research materials, and that products will be used solely for laboratory research. These confirmations are part of supplying research materials responsibly.
Why we don’t give usage advice
We are glad to help with orders, documentation, specifications, storage and handling. We do not provide guidance on administering any product to people or animals, and we will not answer requests for it. Doing so would be inconsistent with what these materials are.
How our documentation supports research
Research depends on knowing exactly what was used. That is why every Aurelia vial carries a batch number, why published batch certificates are available in the COA Library, and why any batch can be checked on Verify a Batch.

Evidence and limitations
Research use only describes Aurelia’s intended supply and use. The label alone does not determine regulatory classification or remove applicable legal requirements. The linked FDA guidance concerns in vitro diagnostic products specifically. Requirements depend on the material, intended use and jurisdiction.
